Three new search technicians join the operational team

After 3 months of training, assessment and a fitness test across five miles of rough ground, our latest intake of trainees is now callout-ready.

Three volunteers have qualified as Lowland Rescue Search Technicians and joined the operational roster, following 3 months of training with the team.

Getting there is deliberately demanding. Trainees cover navigation, radio communication, casualty care, search technique and evidence awareness, alongside a mandatory fitness assessment — five miles of rough ground in two hours, carrying a full search kit. Assessment days are run to a national standard set by [Lowland Rescue], and not everyone passes first time.

All of them are unpaid, and all of them have day jobs, families and lives that a pager can interrupt at four in the morning.
